Justin & Sue run Orange Umbrella, you can find out a little more about them below. They are a husband and wife team with a wide range of skills to help meet the modern demands of financial control for your business. They are supported by Adam and Nicola, our bookkeeping team, to deliver the service you need.
Justin has a degree from Newcastle University in Information Systems and has a general love of all technology. Before setting up Orange Umbrella, Justin spent 10 years running a web technology business called Carrot Media working with clients such as Action Against Hunger, Newcastle University, Michael Heppell and many other local businesses. He decided to change career shortly after the arrival of his first son in 2012.
Justin is the Financial Director for Abode Living so is familiar with most aspects of client money management and the challenges faced when running a company. He’s also a buy to let landlord with a portfolio of properties. He’s been involved in property for over 10 years and loves working with our clients who own property.
He’s worked with Northumbria University for 7 years as a Visiting lecturer delivering for their Graduate Enterprise Module on Entrepreneurship. He’s taught on other modules including; e-Business. He has a professional train the trainer qualification from the ILM to help him deliver better training to our clients.
He has a unique set of skills drawn from running businesses, property, web technologies and academia. This gives him a unique ability to see opportunities and solutions often missed or considered outside the remit of a normal professional advisor. He is always looking to add value for our clients in every area not just financial.
Justin is a published author and has written a business book called the Science of Business.
Most importantly he is a devoted father that understands how important family life is in business. He loves the outdoors and is a qualified indoor climbing instructor. He is a highly driven individual who is always working on either business or personal projects. These include being a triathlete and learning French.
Sue started her career as a teacher for 4 years before retraining to be become a bookkeeper. She set up as a self employed bookkeeper in September 2010. Following the success of her business she decided to join forces with Justin, utilise his business experience and become a limited company in November 2011. She works with a wide variety of clients in a bookkeeping and accounting capacity. As the business has developed Sue tends to work on bookkeeping, company accounts production and oversees our payroll department.
Half of Sue’s time is spent out of the office working with clients with either day to day bookkeeping or helping them develop processes.
Sue has gained qualifications at Level 2 and 3 in computerised bookkeeping through the IAB. She is also a certified member of the team for the online accounting package Xero and is the Money Laundering Officer for Orange Umbrella.
In her spare time Sue likes to spend time having fun with her children and socialising with her friends. She has recently taken up running and regularly runs with Great Run Local at Gibside on a Sunday morning, often cheered on by Justin and their children.
